100 Climate Change Councils (100CCC)
Monday, June 02, 2008 - 100CCC aims to share the collective wisdom of the people with the Copenhagen Climate Conference 2009, and to catalyse individual and local group action to address climate change. I have posted our Purpose, Values etc below and would apprectiate any comments and suggestions about their clarity, and any ideas you have about who else needs to see them.

Purpose
Our purpose is to catalyze individual, local group and national actions to address climate change.

Values
We honour the Mother Earth
With ourselves and with one another, we intend to foster and honour:
The Uniqueness of Each Individual
Self Authority
Dignity
Integrity
Responsibility
Choice
Discernment
Bringing Beauty into the World

Ambition
To contribute to creating a world in which the collective wisdom of the people is heard and harnessed to generate more innovative, breakthrough and actionable approaches to climate change.

That the model that we use for the Climate Change Councils becomes acknowledged as a powerful way to ignite participative democracy, stimulate local activity, and give voice and influence to communities in all decisions that affect them.

Strategy
Stage 1 – Planting the Seeds
To lead 100 Climate Councils in the UK in 2008/9, as part of an international programme, and so enable more people to take self-responsibility and ownership, and participate more fully in resolving the challenges of climate change.

We will achieve this by:
a. collaborating with national organisations whose members will agree to host Climate Change Councils around the UK. They will be attracted to the project because it is aligned with their aims and gives their members a real opportunity to make a local, national and global impact when it’s needed – now!

b. attracting sponsor organisations who want to be aligned with this high profile, 12 month, environmental project and additionally benefit from the wealth of valuable consolidated research data that will result.

c. attracting the interest and endorsement of Government, COP15, NGOs and other climate change organisations to ensure that the outputs of the 100 Climate Change Councils will influence those participating in the COP15.

There will be two major outputs from this stage:

a. a wealth of data, sequenced over 12 months, that takes the temperature of grass roots opinions and willingness to take action on preventing climate change, and ongoing monitoring of the results of their actions.

b. a heightened level of shared reality, deep insights, breakthrough recommendations and commitment to individual and local action in groups that hold a Climate Change Council.

Stage 2 – Nurturing the Early Growth
If Stage 1 plants 100 seeds for change, then Stage 2 is about nurturing these seeds so that individual and local action continues to flourish, and power and influence grows as local groups connect and share best practice.

There are four ways at present in which the early growth will be nurtured:

• The commitment and vitality of local individuals and groups will be maintained as they celebrate the success of their achievements

• Hosting organisations, recognising the ongoing benefits, will continue to encourage local action and foster sharing of information and successes among their members

• 100CCC will create an online community of practice so that all individuals and local groups can connect, share and experience themselves a part of a larger whole.

• 100CCC will publish a regular newsletter accessible to participants and the wider public of progress and successes.

Stage 3 – Expanding the Garden
100CCC will become the overarching brand for all communities and organisations using our methodologies to evoke the collective wisdom of people to resolve the complex challenge they face..
